The first piece completed at Interlochen Summer Arts Camp, "The Acrobat" is a short character sketch that uses twirling woodwind writing and a circus waltz feel to evoke a trapeze artist sailing through the air. After a catastrophic fall signified by a downward chromatic run, the acrobat regains their senses in a sparse keyless section. Luckily, they make a triumphant return, accompanied by a virtuosic finale. The live recording is from the first of three composers' forums at Interlochen, with Sebastian Brea on flute, Daniel Solowey on clarinet, and myself on piano.
